Dominical is a small beach town on the Southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica known for its amazing surf and laid back vibes. It is the northernmost town in the Costa Ballena which stretches from Dominical down to Ojochal. It is one of the few places in Costa Rica where 1500 ft mountains come straight to the edge of the sea. The town is small and has several great restaurants, grocery stores, shops, a medical clinic, and a pharmacy. You can park your car and wander through town and enjoy a day of eating and shopping and hanging out on the beach. The waves are great for surfing all year round and the beach is usually empty and great for long strolls. Some of the surrounding communities are Lagunas, Escaleras, and Dominicalito. Most of the locals live outside of town and up in the hills on larger acreage where they can enjoy the views, the breezes, and the birds and wildlife. Playa Dominicalito which is located a few kms south of Dominical is another wonderful beach and a great beginner surf spot. Dominical has managed to maintain its small town charm even with the area’s recent growth in popularity. From the organic plastic free farmers market to the local brewery to the beautiful beaches to the crafts market on the beach there is something for everyone to enjoy!
