Hatillo is a small community located 5 min north of Dominical along the Southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The town is just off of the paved coastal highway and has a few small shops and restaurants. There are several mountain roads that climb up from the town to access the mountain communities where many expats chose to live. The ocean views are amazing and the rainforest is lush and full of wildlife and rivers and waterfalls. The closest beach is called Playa Guapil and is one of the best kept secrets in the area. To get there you take a dirt road that passes the Hacienda Baru Nature Preserve and arrives at one of the most beautiful and deserted beaches you have ever seen. When you get there it feels like you have stepped back in time. There are no homes or structures of any kind for many kilometers in either direction and it will likely stay this way forever due to the fragile ecosystem of mangroves and rivers that meet the sea. It is a great beach for surfing or just relaxing and getting away from it all. Hatillo is only 5 min north of Dominical if you want to be in town where you can find more services and it’s only 25 min south of Quepos and Manuel Antonio, the most visited national park in the country. In Quepos you will also find Marina Pez Vela, one of the best marinas in Costa Rica and your gateway to some of the best fishing in the world.
