San Isidro is the fastest growing city in Costa Rica with a population of 150,000 in the general area. The city sit at 2200 feet elevation and has a great climate that isn’t too hot but is still very tropical. The city is clean and the people are nice and it has everything you could possibly need from hospitals to grocery stores to lawyers and dentists. There is even a Walmart there now. San Isidro has some great restaurants and some nice hotels too. It is a 45 min drive from Playa Dominical on the coast and a 2 hour drive from Cartago and the San Jose central Valley. To get to San Jose you drive over the Cerro de la Muerte, the highest mountain pass in Costa Rica at 11,300 ft. From San Isidro you can also access the highest peak in Costa Rica, Cerro Chirripó, which you can hike and has an elevation of 12,532 feet. From the peak of Chirripó you can watch the sunrise over the Caribbean Sea and the Sunset over the Pacific Ocean! There are many beautiful towns around San Isidro where foreigners chose to live and mix with the local Ticos. Property is typically more affordable then down at the beach yet in less then an hour you can have your feet in the sand. San Isidro has a great climate for growing food and that is why it has the biggest and best farmers market in Southern Costa Rica if not the entire country. It is no wonder so many people are choosing to move there.
