Calle Tucan sits at the quiet end of a well-known road in Ojochal, Costa Rica, one of the Southern Pacific’s most celebrated villages for expat living and slow-paced Southern Pacific Zone life. The community here is a friendly mix of Costa Rican neighbors and international residents, but homes are spaced far enough apart that you rarely see another roofline through the trees. Two-wheel drive access keeps things easy year-round, and the sense of being genuinely tucked away from the world is something you feel the moment you arrive.
The Grounds
The lot stretches across 792 square meters of landscaped jungle garden, and the property sits at the end of the road with nature pressing in on all sides. Mornings here carry a soundtrack that most people only hear in nature documentaries. Toucans land in the canopy above while you have your coffee, scarlet macaws pass overhead in pairs, and hummingbirds work the garden so regularly you start to recognize their flight paths. Howler monkeys announce the dawn from the surrounding forest, and butterflies and exotic insects fill the afternoon light with constant movement. The river is within walking distance, which adds another dimension to the daily outdoor experience.
The Home
The house itself is a 55 m2 (590 sf) single-story wood construction with a synthetic Palmex thatched roof that keeps the aesthetic warm and natural while delivering serious durability in the tropical climate. Inside, tile floors stay cool underfoot, and the open-plan kitchen and living room keep the space feeling airy and social rather than cramped. The single bedroom has air conditioning for those rare nights when the jungle heat lingers, and the full bath is clean and functional. The home is connected to the ICE utility grid and has fiber or cable internet plus mobile options, which makes this a legitimate option for a remote worker or anyone who needs a real connection without sacrificing the off-grid feeling. Water comes from a legal ASADA source, and the property runs on a septic system. Appliances include a refrigerator, stove and oven, washing machine, dryer, and ceiling fans throughout.
Outdoor Living
The private pool is the centerpiece of the outdoor experience here, and with jungle views wrapping every direction, it does not feel like a backyard pool in any ordinary sense. It feels more like a clearing in the forest that happens to have cold water waiting for you. The patio and terrace space invite long afternoons with a book or a cold drink while the canopy stays active above. Evenings cool down beautifully at this elevation and latitude, and the sound of the forest replaces anything you might have left behind in a busier life.
The Area
Ojochal is about a 10-minute drive for restaurants, grocery shopping, and the expat services that make full-time Southern Zone living genuinely comfortable. Uvita and its whale tail beach are around 20 minutes north, and Dominical is just a bit further for surf culture and farmers markets. San Jose is reachable in roughly 3.5 hours.
At this price, this property makes strong sense as a vacation home, a full-time relocation base, or a long-term rental investment when you are not in residence.
